Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan will no longer purchase Talgo railcars, though existing trains will remain in service until the end of their operational lifespan, according to Zhanibek Taizhanov, Chairman of the Railway and Water Transport Committee under the Ministry of Transport.
Speaking at a briefing, Taizhanov said 14 Talgo trains currently operate on 14 routes across the country, with a total of around 732 cars still in use. Production of these railcars in Kazakhstan officially ended in 2023.
“The factory that used to produce Talgo cars has been acquired and is now manufacturing Stadler railcars. There are no plans to purchase more Talgo units. The current trains will remain in operation until their service life expires,” he stated.
Taizhanov noted that the government is now focusing on locally manufactured trains. Two domestic plants – ZIK-100 and Stadler Kazakhstan – are currently supplying new railcars.
