Kazakhstan is suggesting China to jointly screen the cargoes passing through Khorgos customs post as part of an experiment, KazTAG reports citing deputy chairman of Customs Control Commission of Kazakhstan Ministry of Finance Igor Ten. “Kazakhstan suggested to run an experiment of joint screening of cargoes passing Khorgos customs post in order to increase efficiency of servicing foreign trade companies by both countries. The Chinese party has already expressed it's willingness to approve this idea with authorized bodies,” Ten said. According to Ten, the parties have also decided to continue the experiment with a 12-hour work day at Khorgos noting that it (12-hour work day) has a positive effect on bilateral goods turnover. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that Chinese authorities are going to create several free economic zones in the regions near the Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan borders. “Government of China is planning to establish two free economic zones in Kashgar and Khorgos. This is a strong step needed to boost socio-economic development of Western regions in China,” the Ambassador of China to Kyrgyzstan Wang Kaiwen said.
