What is the ranking?

The IMD World Competitiveness Ranking is an annual study that assesses how well the economies of different countries are positioned to grow and compete at the global level. It is compiled by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).

According to the IMD, Kazakhstan placed 34th in the global competitiveness ranking for 2025. The country has varying performance across different areas:

  • Economic performance: 51st place (score 46.4). In recent years, Kazakhstan has fluctuated between 45th and 58th place.
  • Government efficiency: 22nd place (score 63.2). This indicator remains stable.
  • Business efficiency: 20th place (score 66.8). Kazakhstan has strengthened its position compared to previous years.
  • Infrastructure: 44th place (score 43.6). A slight improvement was noted compared to last year.

The ranking also highlighted key challenges for Kazakhstan in 2025:

  • Ensuring stable fiscal policy to sustain quality economic growth and responsible business practices.
  • Modernizing the energy sector and public infrastructure.
  • Preparing skilled labor for industry.
  • Implementing artificial intelligence elements into the e-government system.
  • Improving the investment climate and business environment.
