According to comparative data from the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS, the average nominal salary in Kazakhstan in September 2024 was $817.2. This is nearly twice as high as in Uzbekistan ($437.8) and Kyrgyzstan ($411.2). Tajikistan lags even further behind, with an average salary 3.4 times lower at $242.8.
Up-to-date data on official nominal wages in Turkmenistan is unavailable, with the last update from the country’s State Statistics Committee dating back to 2023.
Kazakhstan also has the highest minimum wage in the region. In 2023, it was set at 85,000 tenge ($181.1), significantly higher than in Uzbekistan ($89.4), Tajikistan ($54.9), and Kyrgyzstan ($28.3).
The highest nominal salaries in all four Central Asian countries are found in the finance and insurance sectors. However, there are stark differences: in Kazakhstan, financial and insurance professionals earn over $1,700—three times more than in Tajikistan ($561.9).
In Kazakhstan, the highest-paying industries are finance and mining. In Tajikistan, aside from finance, the manufacturing and service sectors offer the highest wages. In Uzbekistan, financial and IT professionals earn over $1,000, a trend also seen in Kyrgyzstan.
The lowest-paying sectors across Central Asia include education, healthcare, agriculture, and public utilities.
