Tengrinews.kz - For the first time in Kazakhstan, a man has been sentenced to community service for causing a domestic disturbance. The case took place in Uralsk, where the offender will sweep streets as part of his punishment.
According to the West Kazakhstan Regional Court, the man, intoxicated at the time, verbally abused and threatened his wife, which was deemed a violation of family peace.
When determining the sentence, the court considered mitigating circumstances, including reconciliation between the parties and their mutual agreement that community service was a fair penalty. The ruling has not yet entered into legal force.
The decision comes after amendments to the Administrative Code took effect on September 1, 2025, allowing courts to assign community service as an alternative to administrative arrest in cases of domestic conflicts.
On September 4, the Uralsk court applied the new measure for the first time, sentencing the offender to 40 hours of community work. The tasks are to be performed during free time and may range from 10 to 100 hours, all aimed at benefiting the community.
Previously, penalties in Kazakhstan have been introduced for using someone else’s digital signature.
