On October 25, Kazakhstan celebrates the national holiday Republic Day. Its history dates back to 1990 when the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty.
In 1995, Republic Day was declared a national holiday, and in 2001, it became a state holiday. Eight years later, changes were made to the law, leading to the cancellation of its celebration.
The status of Republic Day as a national holiday was only restored in 2022. Today, it is the only national holiday in Kazakhstan, underscoring its significance. October 25 has been declared a day off in the country.
