December: swings and snowstorms
Meteorologists predict active cyclonic activity across most of the country in December, bringing snowstorms, blizzards, and strong winds. Southern regions will see rain and wet snow, while mountainous areas may experience heavy snowfall.
Western and southern Kazakhstan could face icy conditions and fog.
Temperatures will vary:
- North and Central Regions
- Night: -18°C to -23°C, rising to -7°C to -12°C.
- Day: -4°C to +1°C, later dropping to -8°C to -13°C.
- Late December could bring severe cold, with nighttime lows of -25°C to -37°C and daytime highs of -15°C to -25°C. - South and Southeast Regions
- Night: -10°C to -18°C, rising to 0°C to -5°C.
- Day: 0°C to -5°C, increasing to +3°C to +12°C.
- Late December might see nighttime lows of -15°C to -22°C and daytime highs of -5°C to -13°C.
January and February: Norm with anomalies
In January, temperatures are expected to stay within the climatic norm, though occasional extreme cold and dry spells could occur. February may bring temperatures 1°C above the norm in most regions.
Winter 2024/2025: A challenging season
The upcoming winter will be dynamic, with temperatures generally aligning with historical averages. However, extreme cold snaps, heavy snowfalls, and increased precipitation are expected. Meteorologists advise residents to stay alert and monitor forecasts, particularly during periods of rapid temperature changes.
