Kazakhstan and China plan to complete the 3rd pipeline of the [Kazakhstan’s segment] of the Turkmenistan – Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan – China gas pipeline network by 2013, which will boost the Kazakh segment’s carrying capacities by 25 billion cubic meters, Novosti Kazakhstan quoted Kairgeldy Kabyldin, Chairman of the Board at KazMunaiGas National O&G Company, as saying June 16. “The issue was broached by the Chinese side (…) now we are working on expansion in partnership with CNPC”, Mr. Kabyldin told journalists. Kazakhstan – China main gas pipeline currently consists of 2 parallel pipelines (1067 millimeters in diameter). The first line is capable of pumping 40 billion cubic meters a year. The line runs from the Kazakh-Uzbek border to the China-Kazakh border. The second line [Beineu-Bazoi-Kyzylorda-Chymkent] is capable of carrying 10 billion cubic meters a year. According to Pipelinesinternational.com , the main purpose of the Beineu – Bozoy – Shymkent Gas Pipeline project is to ensure energy security and reliability of gas supply of the southern regions of Kazakhstan, through shipments of Kazakh gas from fields in the country’s western regions. The pipeline runs along the Mangystau, Aktobe, Kyzylorda and South Kazakhstan regions and interconnects with the first stage of the Kazakhstan – China Pipeline, which runs from the Uzbekistani and Kazakh border to Khorgos, China.
