3100 children were adopted in Kazakhstan in 2010, as Children Rights Protection Committee of Kazakhstan Ministry of Education and Science reports. According to the authority, 1048 people were registered as potential adoptive parents in 2010. The Children Rights Protection Committee said that Kazakhstan citizens exercise priority rights in adoption issues as per Kazakhstan legislation. The authority reports that foreign citizens adopted 506 Kazakhstan children in 2010. Americans adopted 159 children from Kazakhstan. The total number of foreign adopters who filed their applications in Kazakhstan reached 900, including 224 files from US citizens.
