Tengrinews.kz – Kazakh women have started receiving free contraceptives, Minister of Healthcare Akmaral Alnazarova announced.

She stated that 75,000 abortions are performed annually in Kazakhstan. Given the availability of modern family planning methods, this number must be reduced.

“Every abortion is a threat to a woman’s health and life. That’s why the Ministry of Healthcare is working closely with local administrations. This should not remain just words. Today, funds are being allocated in clinics to provide family planning tools for socially vulnerable groups. We understand this isn’t enough, so this work will continue,” Alnazarova said during a government briefing.

According to the minister, the Ministry has studied international experience and engaged global reproductive health experts.

“This decision — to provide free contraceptives — is one taken by all civilized countries. We will follow the same path,” Alnazarova emphasized.

She explained that medical organizations are funding contraceptives for women, while in some regions, funds come from local budgets.

“We are now working with each local government to ensure that not only clinics, but others as well — depending on capacity — allocate funding. The goal is to increase coverage for women in need,” the minister added.
