Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Karim Massimov congratulated Astana on its birthday in Twitter, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Happy birthday, Astana!” Karim Massimov tweeted. The Capital Day has been celebrated in Astana since 1998. The holiday was celebrated on June 10 until 2008. Kazakhstan Holidays Law was amended in 2008 to register a new state holiday called Capital Day on July 6 based on the fact that Kazakhstan Supreme Council decreed to move the capital from Almaty to Akmola (later Astana) on July 6, 1994.
