January weapon found on the shore of Lake Sairan in Almaty

Tengrinews.kz — A weapon stolen during the January events has been found on the shore of Lake Sairan in Almaty, according to Polisia.kz.

The discovery was made on April 27 by police officers during the operational and preventive campaign Law and Order. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the weapon had previously been stolen from a gun shop during the mass unrest.

Seizure of weapons across the country

As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, since the beginning of the year law enforcement agencies have seized more than 900 weapons. Of these, 74 had been stolen during the January events. In addition, more than 4,000 rounds of ammunition have been removed from illegal circulation.

From April 27 to 29, as part of the Law and Order campaign, 67 firearms and more than 200 rounds of ammunition of various calibers were seized nationwide.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminds citizens that voluntarily surrendering illegally stored weapons exempts them from criminal and administrative liability.
