It is important that Kazakhstan remains a secular state, Ermukhamet Ertysbayev, Advisor to President Nazarbayev, Novosti Kazakhstan reports. “We are a secular state. And it is very important to maintain the major attributes of being a secular state”, Ertysbayev told journalists on the sidelines of the joint sitting of the two chambers of the national Parliament September 1. “Some young people, much more so unemployed, are involved in various religious cults. Some cults were active in the West of Kazakhstan. But they are not related to genuine religion (…) not a single world religion promotes violence. Young people killing law enforcement officers have nothing to do with genuine religion. Head of State is very concerned about these issues”, Ertysbayev said. Tengrinews.kz has already reported that at the joint sitting of the two Parliament chambers September 1 President Nazarbayev urged the Parliament to pass a legislation to fence the nation off religious extremism.
