Tengrinews.kz – An important stage of Light Rail Transit (LRT) construction has been completed in Astana, citing a statement from City Transportation Systems (CTS).
In the capital, rail-laying works have been completed on the main LRT line with a total length of 22.4 kilometers.
“This is one of the key stages in the construction of the capital’s strategic transport project. In total, 89,600 linear meters of rails have been laid at stations No. 101–118 and on the sections between them. At present, welding is underway, after which the final fastening of the track will begin,” the CTS statement said.
Carbon steel rails with a high iron content were used in the construction. They were installed on prestressed sleepers using a seamless-laying technology with the modern DTVII2-1 fastening system. This technology significantly reduces noise and vibration levels during train operation, providing more comfortable conditions for passengers and residents of nearby areas.
According to official data, further work will include the installation of evacuation platforms to ensure passenger safety in case of emergencies.
Astana’s LRT to be fully operational only in 2026
It should be noted that on August 14, the Akim of the capital, Zhenis Kassymbek, during a meeting with residents of Astana, announced when the LRT will be launched and how much the fare will cost. He stated that the first test runs are expected in September this year, lasting from three to six months.
According to the Akim, the fare may be set at 200 tenge per trip, though the final tariff will be announced later.
