How much snow fell in Almaty

Tengrinews.kz - According to Kazhydromet, 18 centimeters of snow fell in Almaty in 24 hours, which is 31% of the January norm. This was reported by the Akimat. 21 centimeters of snow were recorded on Kamenskoye Plateau, and 12 centimeters on Medeu.

9600 cubic meters of snow were removed from the city streets in 24 hours. More than 1200 workers and 573 units of equipment are involved in snow removal.

573 units of special equipment and 711 road workers were involved in cleaning the streets at night. 203 dump trucks are involved in snow removal.

"Since the evening of January 22, 26 columns of equipment have been carrying out snow removal work, accompanied by traffic police patrol cars. After an intense snowfall that began at 23:30, repeated snow removal was organized from 4 AM in the morning," the Almaty Akimat (local government administration) reported.

Mechanized cleaning of sidewalks, public spaces and approaches to socially significant facilities is being carried out using 95 units of small-sized equipment. Manual cleaning of public transport stops and overpasses is also being carried out.

A 24-hour duty has been organized in the district akimats to monitor the production of snow removal work.

Snowfall in Almaty began on the morning of January 22. According to the forecast of the Kazhydromet, light snow is expected from 4 PM on January 23, until the end of the day. The air temperature during the day will be from -5 to -7 degrees.

On January 24, Almaty will have variable cloudiness without precipitation. The air temperature at night will drop from -18 to -20 degrees, during the day from -12 to -14 degrees.
