Tengrinews.kz – Real winter has arrived in Almaty. During the night of December 10, the city was hit by a heavy snowfall, and by morning the snow cover had reached 35 centimeters, which, according to the city administration, is almost half of the monthly norm.
According to the city akimat, public utility services have been switched to an enhanced operating mode.
“A total of 2,728 road workers and 75 rapid-response teams have been deployed to clear the city of snow. There are 923 units of special equipment in operation, including 228 multifunctional road machines used for anti-icing patrol treatment. Additionally, 22 police crews and 10 tow trucks and manipulators are assisting the work,” the akimat reported.

It is noted that starting from 04:00 AM, 21 convoys have been clearing major and district roads. In parallel, sidewalks, bus stops, and pedestrian areas are being cleared.

“Starting from 05:00 AM, yard territories are being cleaned by 37 private contracting organizations, involving 1,790 workers and 256 units of equipment. The city has organized round-the-clock monitoring of road conditions. All services continue to operate in enhanced mode until the consequences of the snowfall are completely eliminated,” the press service stated.

Earlier, the Almaty akimat reported that the city was prepared for precipitation. Snowplows and manual cleaning crews were deployed throughout the streets, and de-icing materials were applied at night and in the morning to reduce the risk of ice.
