H1 2011 oil and coal production figures

Kazakhstan boosted oil production output by 3% in the H1 2011 as compared to the like period of 2010, the State Agency for Statistics reports. Crude production for the period under review stood at 33.9 million tons, with 5.7 million tons produced in June alone. According to the Ministry of Oil and gas, production of crude oil and condensed gas in 2010 totaled 80 million tons, 4.2% up against 2009. Coal production output in the H1 2011 grew 3.4% against the like period of 2010. According to the State Agency for Statistics, coal production for the period under review totaled 49.7 million tons. Kazakhstan is ranked 8th in terms of coal production, holding 4% of the global coal reserves. Coal accounts for 80% of power generated in Kazakhstan. Earlier it was reported that Kazakhstan plans to increase coal production output to 134 million tons by 2015, raising the figure further to 151 million tons by 2020. Investments to develop the coal industry to 2020 will make up $ 3.4 million.
