Tengrinews.kz - Several new reservoirs will be built in Kazakhstan, according to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
Kazakhstan plans to build four new reservoirs and renovate four existing ones. In addition, the government will carry out major reconstruction and repairs on 115 canals across the country, including a project to replenish the Astana Reservoir.
"The construction and reconstruction work will take place in the regions of Akmola, Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Turkestan, West Kazakhstan, Zhetysu, and in the city of Astana," the ministry stated.
At this stage, authorities are preparing the necessary documentation and coordinating with other state bodies to launch the projects.
The ministry also announced that, under a grant from the Islamic Development Bank, the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Water Economy will conduct a comprehensive study of the country’s water and river basins. The project also includes an assessment of early warning systems for the Information and Analytical Center for Water Resources and upgrading the technical capacity of the national water utility, Kazvodkhoz.
