Tengrinews.kz – Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Yerlan Nyssanbayev, announced that Kazakhstan plans to bring four more tigers from Russia.
According to the minister, the first meeting with Russian colleagues on this matter took place in February as part of a memorandum.
"A group of specialists from the Russian Federation visited us, and we showed them the infrastructure we are preparing for the tigers we plan to receive from Russia. There is a mutual understanding, and I believe that this year we will bring in three, at most four, tigers. This will allow us to fully launch the project to restore the Turan tiger. As for the exact timing, we don’t know yet, but there is a clear plan and decision," Nyssanbayev explained.
Additionally, the minister provided an update on the well-being of the tigers brought to Kazakhstan from the Netherlands.
"Two tigers were brought from the Netherlands, and they are currently in the Ile-Balkhash Reserve under ideal conditions. I want to say that their condition is excellent. Moreover, we have shared information in the media and on social networks, and we hope to see offspring by the end of this year," he concluded.
It was previously reported that the tigers brought to Kazakhstan had awakened their breeding instincts.
