Tengrinews.kz – Residents of Zaysan, Kurchum, Tarbagatai districts, and Samar district will start their workday an hour earlier from March 5.
According to Darkhan Zhorgekbayev, the akim of Tarbagatai district in East Kazakhstan region, the initiative to shift the working hours earlier was supported by residents of all 28 rural settlements, totaling 18,400 people.
In Zaysan district, there are 33 settlements with a population of over 35,000 people.
Aelita Akhmetsalimkyzy, the akim of Zaysan district, stated that residents welcomed the proposal to adjust working hours.
"Before making this decision, we held meetings in each rural district, and the population supported the idea. The fact is that Zaysan district is closest to the eastern border of East Kazakhstan region, so the sun rises earlier here, making daylight hours begin earlier. It is much more convenient for people when the workday starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m.—this leaves more time for household chores, children, and family after work," said Aelita Akhmetsalimkyzy.
She added that the initiative received 100% support from the population, especially government employees, whose workday traditionally began at 9:00 a.m.
"For the residents of the district, the advantages are obvious—they live in rural areas and are used to waking up early because they tend to their households in the morning. Now, they can also return home from work earlier, which is very convenient," says Rizabek Shakenuly, a resident of Zaysan district.
He owns a farm and knows firsthand what it means to wake up with the first rays of the sun.
"Zaysan residents also noted the benefits of the extended lunch break from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. It allows not only time to eat and regain energy but also, for example, to pick up children from school. Finishing work at 5:30 p.m. also increases safety levels. Resource savings are another argument in favor of the new schedule—reducing electricity consumption thanks to natural daylight is very important," says Aelita Akhmetsalimkyzy.
It is worth noting that Zaysan district consists of nine administrative-territorial units, including the town of Zaysan, eight rural districts, and 33 settlements, with a total population of 35,219 people.
As a reminder, on January 5, residents of 17 villages in the Katon-Karagay district switched to their own work schedule, with working hours from 08:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On February 24, residents of Markakol and Ulken Naryn districts followed suit.
Additionally, on the night of February 29 to March 1, 2024, Kazakhstan transitioned to a single time zone. Three months later, on June 7, a petition was launched in Kazakhstan to reverse the time change. Although it gathered the required 50,000 signatures, it was ultimately rejected.
