The children were victims of a devastating mudslide that occurred in the Nookat District of the Osh Region in Kyrgyzstan on Friday, June 28. The mudflows destroyed roads, bridges, and flooded residential homes. The four children from Kazakhstan were visiting relatives in Kyrgyzstan when the disaster struck.

A total of 1,400 vacationers were evacuated from the "Abshir-Ata" resort area, and a state of emergency has been declared.
