Tengrinews.kz – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Bakayev commented on the situation involving comedian Nurlan Saburov. Earlier, after being banned from entering Russia, he left for Kazakhstan.

On the sidelines of the government, journalists asked whether Nurlan Saburov had sought assistance from Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry after receiving the entry ban.

"As far as I know, he has not applied. Recently, especially in the past three days, we have not dealt with these issues. The main focus right now is the Middle East and assisting our citizens in safely returning home," Alibek Bakayev replied.

The deputy minister was also asked whether it was true that Saburov had left Kazakhstan and what would happen if he returned to his homeland, given that an inspection is reportedly being conducted regarding him.

"It is probably better to contact the migration authorities within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as they oversee internal migration matters. No such requests have been received. He is a citizen of Kazakhstan, therefore he fully falls under the jurisdiction of our legislation," Bakayev said.

According to him, Russian authorities have also not contacted Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry.

Context

Earlier, it became known that popular Kazakh comedian Nurlan Saburov had been banned from entering Russia for 50 years. The decision was reportedly made "in the interests of national security, compliance with legislation, and protection of traditional spiritual and moral values."

The comedian was stopped at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport after returning from Dubai. Saburov refused free deportation to Dubai and instead purchased a ticket to Kazakhstan. On the morning of February 7, he arrived in Almaty. Another host of the show "What Happened Next?" (Chto bylo dalshe), Alexey Shcherbakov, also flew to Almaty shortly after.

According to lawyer Alexander Khaminsky, Saburov could have the entry ban lifted if he publicly changed his position regarding Russian policy. The lawyer stated that the decision to ban the comedian from entering Russia was linked to his public criticism of the war against Ukraine, his "anti-Russian statements," as well as systematic violations of migration and tax legislation.

On February 8, Nurlan Saburov commented on the entry ban. In an Instagram story, he said he would not discuss the situation publicly, as his lawyers would handle the matter.

Saburov noted that he began his career in Yekaterinburg and continued in Moscow, thanked Russia for the opportunity for creative development and audience support, and asked journalists and bloggers not to interfere in his family’s private life.
