Tengrinews.kz - The Department of State Revenue of the West Kazakhstan Region has announced a ban on the export of catfish and pike perch in unprocessed form from Kazakhstan, including to member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, starting from February 14, 2025.
The ban will be in effect for six months, until August 14, 2025. According to the department, this measure is being implemented "to enforce non-tariff regulation measures."
Fish prohibited for export:
- Fresh or chilled pike perch;
- Fresh or chilled catfish, except for African (clarias) catfish;
- Frozen catfish, except for African (clarias) catfish;
- Frozen pike perch.
The West Kazakhstan Department of State Revenue clarified that the ban does not apply to processed frozen products of pike perch and catfish, meaning gutted fish.
"This product is classified as processed and is not subject to restrictive measures. We urge foreign trade participants to pay attention to the duration of the ban and carefully monitor the appropriate product classifications to avoid issues with customs procedures," the statement said.
Earlier, a video showing a mass fish die-off in the West Kazakhstan region has been circulating on social media, prompting a response from the Ministry of Agriculture’s Fisheries Committee.
