Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy – Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, according to Akorda.
During the conversation, the two sides discussed prospects for comprehensive cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union.
Special attention was given to expanding trade and economic partnerships in priority areas such as energy, industry, digitalization, as well as the implementation of large infrastructure projects aimed at developing the Trans-Caspian transport corridor.
Kaja Kallas emphasized that Kazakhstan was the first country in the region to sign an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union, which serves as evidence of the high level of bilateral relations. She also announced the start of the procedure for concluding an agreement between the European Commission and Kazakhstan to simplify the visa issuance process.
The Head of State noted that this news is received very positively in Kazakhstan, as the move opens up broad opportunities for strengthening people-to-people contacts and business ties with European countries.
The two sides also exchanged views on current international and regional issues.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed the importance of exercising restraint and responsibility when assessing the complex events unfolding around the world, given the growing global instability. According to him, Kazakhstan consistently adheres to the position of resolving all acute international issues and conflicts through diplomatic negotiations.
The meeting also addressed cooperation within the "Central Asia – European Union" format.
