Tengrinews.kz - In Ust-Kamenogorsk (Oskemen), green alleys are withering and hundreds of young seedlings are dying under the scorching sun, citing Channel Seven.
According to the TV channel, the young trees planted along the Ulba River embankment have been left without watering. A similar situation is observed in city parks.
It is noted that more than 4,000 coniferous and deciduous trees were planted in the regional center this year alone.
Ecologist Daulet Asanov has been advocating for several years for the creation of a dendrological plan for Ust-Kamenogorsk so that landscaping is carried out with scientific precision rather than just for reporting purposes.
The specialist explained that the city needs an organization that would take responsibility for caring for the trees.
“As for the streets, courtyards, and other areas—without a dendrological plan it’s a complete disaster, because plots are handed out left and right, owners come and do whatever they want with these areas, and there is no legalized compensation,” Asanov said.
Elena Berezinskaya-Abilova, head of the Environmental Protection Bureau Oskemen Tynysy, also shared her opinion on the matter.
“It is very important to properly prepare the technical specifications for implementing this project so we avoid confusion. Right now, only one person in the city’s housing and utilities department is responsible for this. As public activists, we recommend creating an ecology division within the department. Moreover, there is a separate municipal enterprise that should be handling green plantings,” she noted.
According to the regional akimat (local government administration), a dendrological plan will be developed, but not before next year.
