Tengrinews.kz - In the East Kazakhstan region, police detained a driver who was found with a rare bird listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book (national endangered species list).
During an operational and preventive raid, police officers together with game wardens stopped a Suzuki vehicle.
Upon inspection, they discovered a saker falcon — a species protected under the Red Book — as well as six pigeons that had been used as bait.
According to Polisia.kz, the 55-year-old local resident was taken into custody and brought to the police station for further investigation.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the illegal possession of rare and endangered wildlife.
The confiscated birds have been transferred to the state zoo in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
