Tengrinews.kz – The Border Service of the National Security Committee (NSC) held 3,216 violators of Kazakhstani law accountable in the border area in February, in cooperation with other competent authorities.
Eighteen foreign nationals were prosecuted for border violations, while eight others were caught attempting to cross the border illegally.
"A total of 1,552 cases of illegal border crossings were prevented, including: 33 cases involving narcotic substances, including 800 liters of precursors; 71 cases involving weapons and ammunition (4 firearms, 1 signal weapon, 135 cold weapons, 1 grenade, 50 rounds of ammunition, and 13 stun guns); 29 cases involving religious literature (555 copies); 638 cases involving fuel and lubricants (over 54,000 liters) worth more than 20 million tenge; 627 cases involving consumer goods worth more than 3.7 billion tenge; 154 cases involving currency smuggling, totaling over 1.6 billion tenge," the report states.
Additionally, seven cases of poaching were stopped in the Caspian Sea, with authorities seizing: 4 boats; 13.6 kilometers of illegal fishing nets; 87 sturgeon fish (weighing 522.3 kg). The total prevented damage was estimated at approximately 205 million tenge.
"The materials related to these cases have been forwarded to law enforcement and judicial authorities to hold the violators accountable. No restrictive measures have been introduced at the state border, and all checkpoints are operating as usual," the statement said.
Earlier, it was reported that the NSC uncovered an illegal migration scheme into Kazakhstan.
