Tengrinews.kz — On June 2, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived on a working visit to the Almaty region. He reviewed the ongoing development of the city of Alatau.
The President's working visit to the Almaty region began with a presentation on the development of Alatau.
The city currently spans 88,000 hectares and is divided into four functional zones, which are slated for phased development through 2050.
Growth poles and priority development areas have been identified, and a roadmap for trunk infrastructure development is being implemented. A constitutional law establishing a new management model has also been adopted.

"The Gate City residential area is currently under active development, featuring a completed 'comfortable school.' Five core enterprises are operational in the city: Mareven Food, KNAUF, Fruit Art, Dolce Pharm, and the Almaty Fan Plant. Additionally, a pool of 53 investment projects totaling over 2 trillion tenge has been established," the Akorda press service noted.

Specifically, PepsiCo is constructing Central Asia's largest potato processing plant, Mars Petcare is launching the region's first modern pet food production facility, KHAN TENGRI BIOPHARMA is manufacturing medicines and medical equipment, while Eastcomtrans and G-Trans are developing a logistics cluster.

As a reminder, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the Constitutional Law "On the Special Legal Regime of the City of Alatau" on May 8, 2026. The primary objective of this document is to create conditions for the accelerated and sustainable development of Alatau.
The city's unique legal status represents a fundamentally new approach to forming an independent ecosystem designed to foster a favorable environment for innovation, investment, and economic growth.
Notably, during his 2025 State of the Nation Address, President Tokayev announced that Alatau is destined to become a new hub for business activity and innovation. The Head of State recalled that multibillion-dollar agreements were signed with world-class companies during his visit to China. One such company, which participated in the construction of the global technopolis Shenzhen, will be directly involved in the implementation of the Alatau City project.
According to the President, the city will embody the future of Kazakhstan, blending technological progress with a highly comfortable living environment.
