Cyclone to hit Kazakhstan: Where to expect heavy rain and cooling

Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected across Kazakhstan

A northwestern cyclone will affect the weather in most parts of Kazakhstan, bringing rain. Heavy showers with thunderstorms, hail, and squally winds are forecast in the north, northwest, east, and central regions of the country. Only the southwest, the west on August 17-18, and the central region on August 18 are expected to have dry weather.

Across Kazakhstan, wind speeds are expected to increase. Fog may occur at night and in the morning in the north, east, and central areas.

Temperature outlook

• Western regions: daytime temperatures will rise from 22–30°C to 27–35°C.
• Northwestern regions: from 16–30°C to 22–33°C.
• Northern Kazakhstan: prevailing daytime temperatures will be 18–23°C.
• Central regions: 20–30°C.
• Eastern Kazakhstan: cooling from 20–30°C to 17–25°C.
• Southern Kazakhstan: 25–35°C.
• Southeastern Kazakhstan: cooling from 30–35°C to 25–32°C.

Kazakhstan weather forecast for August

Earlier, Kazhydromet released its forecast for August 2025. Most of the country is expected to experience moderately hot weather, while temperatures in the south and southwest are projected to exceed seasonal norms.
