Tengrinews.kz – The Central Referendum Commission (Central Election Commission) has outlined the main stages of preparation and conduct of the national referendum on the Constitution in Kazakhstan.
Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mukhtar Erman recalled that the vote will take place on 15 March this year.
“Voting will be held on 15 March from 07:00 AM to 8:00 PM, unless otherwise determined by territorial referendum commissions for the convenience of voters. Official announcements of the Central Referendum Commission on the results of the referendum are to be published in the media no later than 7 days from the voting day, that is, by 21 March,” Erman said at the commission meeting.
In total, the duration of the campaign for preparing the referendum from the day it is called to the voting day will be 32 days. Akimats will begin compiling voter lists immediately after the voting day is set.
Twenty days before the voting day, i.e. on 22 February, the lists signed by the relevant akim are submitted to the referendum precinct and in electronic form to the Central Referendum Commission.
Fifteen days before the voting day, i.e. from 27 February, citizens will be able to review the lists at the precincts.
The precinct referendum commission, no later than 10 days before the voting day, i.e. by 4 March, informs citizens about the place and time of voting.
14 March is the day of silence.
“Campaigning begins from the moment the referendum is called and ends at 12:00 AM on the day preceding the vote (…). Thus, a draft resolution of the Central Referendum Commission has been prepared – a calendar plan of the main activities for preparing and holding the national referendum scheduled for 15 March. I ask you to support it,” Mukhtar Erman added.
It should be recalled that on 11 February President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on holding a national referendum on the Constitution.
On 15 March, citizens of Kazakhstan will be able to vote and decide whether they accept the new Constitution. The draft Constitution was published in the media on 12 February.
