Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s Committee of Criminal Executive System has refused to specify the exact correctional facility where former minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev is serving his sentence.
Previously, Bishimbayev’s lawyer, Erlan Gazymzhanov, stated that he is being held in a maximum-security facility in Stepnogorsk. Some media outlets reported that Bishimbayev is in Facility No. 5 in Stepnogorsk, but the Committee of Criminal Executive System only partially confirmed this, declining to name the exact location.
"The individual in question is serving the court-imposed sentence in a maximum-security correctional facility. In accordance with current legislation (Article 25 of the Penal Code), the immediate family has been notified of the location," the committee stated.
According to Article 25 of the Penal Code, facility administrators are required to notify the spouse or a close relative of the inmate's arrival within two working days.
The committee also noted that Bishimbayev is not employed in the facility.
"The daily routine is the same for all inmates. Due to a lack of available positions, he is not employed," they added.
Earlier, reports surfaced online claiming that Bishimbayev could not be located in any Kazakhstani prison location. Some journalists speculated that he might be serving his sentence in Stepnogorsk or Arshaly, though media outlets were unable to confirm this.
Later, Telegram channels began circulating rumors that he had supposedly escaped from a correctional facility. The Committee of Criminal Executive System refuted this information, stating that it is "not true." According to the press service, the convict is serving his sentence in a maximum-security facility.
Reminder: On May 13, the trial in the case of the murder of Saltanat Nukenova concluded in Astana. Former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev was found guilty of torturing and murdering his wife and was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
