China offers water-saving tech but Kazakhstan lacks initiative - Tokayev

Tengrinews.kz - Speaking about the development of water-saving technologies, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that China offers Kazakhstan cooperation, but no initiative has been shown from Kazakhstan's side.

"We've been emphasizing the importance of fostering a culture of resource conservation in society for years. But in addition to calls to citizens, we need to implement social consumption norms," said Tokayev during the extended government meeting.

According to him, there are already positive examples. In the field of water consumption alone, this approach has led to a monthly water savings of about eight percent.

"This is extremely important, as the shortage of water resources is becoming more acute not only in Kazakhstan but also in Central Asia as a whole. Therefore, the issue of applying water-saving technologies is pressing.

Neighboring China possesses world-class technologies and offers cooperation, but no initiative or determination has been shown from our side. The government must address this issue promptly and report on the results by June 1," the President added.
