Tengrinews.kz - Not all Kazakh citizens will be able to use the popular AI platform ChatGPT, First Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, Kanysh Tuleushin said.
Speaking to reporters in the Mazhilis, Tuleushin announced that the Minister of Digitalization had signed an order banning civil servants from using ChatGPT for official purposes in order to prevent data leaks.
As an alternative, government employees will be offered access to a Kazakh-developed language model created at Nazarbayev University.
“If someone wants to use a language model to improve their work efficiency, they’ll have an alternative developed by our scientists. Our large language model is hosted on secure internal servers,” Tuleushin explained.
At the same time, he admitted that it is currently impossible to determine which AI system was used to complete a task. He said the creation of a domestic AI model is necessary to “develop national competencies” in the field.
Tuleushin added that ministry employees will not be required to hand over phones that may have the ChatGPT app installed.
Previously, Mazhilis deputy Daulet Mukaev proposed restricting the use of ChatGPT by schoolchildren in Kazakhstan.
