Tengrinews.kz – Speaking at the Kazakhstan–Iran Business Forum in Astana, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed the issue of preserving the Caspian Sea’s water resources, according to Akorda.
In his speech, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid special attention to the preservation of the Caspian Sea and its ecosystem.
“Today, the fate of the Caspian Sea is becoming one of the most pressing issues requiring urgent action. The decline in the sea level is already having a serious impact on both the environment and the economy of the region. Solving this shared problem is possible only through the consolidation of efforts by all five states. It is important to actively involve international organizations and financial institutions in this process. As you know, at an expanded meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, I put forward the initiative to establish a Center for the Study of Water Issues,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
In this regard, the President of Kazakhstan believes that an interstate program must be adopted to preserve the Caspian’s water resources and that joint measures should be implemented.
“Next year, Kazakhstan plans to take part in the 7th Caspian Summit in Tehran. In addition, we propose holding the 4th Caspian Economic Forum within the next two years. These events offer broad opportunities for a comprehensive discussion of issues related to the Caspian Sea and for developing effective solutions. We invite our Iranian colleagues to actively participate in these initiatives,” the President of Kazakhstan noted.
It should be recalled that during the Kazakhstan–Iran Business Forum, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed confidence that the event would strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy and investment.
