Tengrinews.kz – A cache of weapons stolen during the January events has been found in Almaty, according to Polisia.kz.

It was reported that during operational measures, officers of the Almaty Region Police Department discovered a hidden compartment under a car bridge crossing the Big Almaty Canal.

"Inside, a cache was found containing a 12-gauge smoothbore shotgun. A check showed that the weapon had been listed as stolen from a gun shop during the January 2022 events in Almaty," the police said.

A criminal case has been opened. Police officers, together with the prosecutor’s office, are conducting investigative actions to identify those involved and the circumstances under which the weapon was concealed.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that since the beginning of the year, more than 2,300 units of illegal weapons have been seized, including those stolen during the January events. In October alone, over 400 units were confiscated — among them automatic rifles, shotguns, carbines, traumatic and gas pistols, as well as more than 3,200 rounds of ammunition, including explosive devices and explosives.
