Almaty will host a bike march timed to the World Environment Day, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the campaign's organizers. The event is scheduled for June 5 at 9.00 a.m. The march will start at the crossing of Abai and Momyshuly streets and finish at 9.30 a.m. next to the Central Stadium at the crossing of Abai and Baizakov streets. 15 bike marches have been already held in Almaty starting from 2009. This time the march will have cycling brides for the first time on June 5. The brides decided to support the campaign with the slogan Make LOVE, not carbon! Cycling competition for kids will also be held on June 5 in Gandhi park at the crossing of Zharokov and Shevchenko streets. "The bike march helps to bring attention to ecological problems of the city, especially to air pollution problem. Increase of the number of bikes in the city will help improve its ecological situation. In recent years many citizens of Almaty have found out about all the advantages of using this ecological, fast and healthy type of transport,” said representative of Velo-Almaty public interest group Timur Dzhurkashev.
