Tengrinews.kz - A Kazakhstani suspect in a major fraud case has been extradited from Belarus, according to the General Prosecutor's Office.
According to the agency, the man, between January 2022 and August 2023 in Turkestan, acting as part of a group, stole money from 13 individuals under the pretext of assisting them in obtaining non-repayable financial grants for starting a business, causing a total loss of over 10 million tenge.
"An accomplice of this crime has already been convicted, and the suspect, after committing the illegal act, went into hiding and was placed on the international wanted list. In October 2024, he was detained in Belarus and, upon the request of the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan, was extradited to his homeland," the statement says.
The suspect is currently in custody in the Astana pre-trial detention center. For committing this crime, the penalty includes imprisonment for a term of three to seven years with confiscation of property.
