Tengrinews.kz – Azerbaijan and Russia will be allowed to participate in the investigation of the plane crash in Aktau. However, as stated by Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev during a briefing, experts from these countries will not take part in the forensic investigation of the incident.

This clarification was provided on December 26 during a briefing in Aktau, where the latest details about the crash were shared.

"Law enforcement authorities from Russia and Azerbaijan will not be involved in the forensic investigation (as per Article 566 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan), but they will be permitted to participate in the air incident investigation," Bozumbayev said at the briefing.

Notably, during the same briefing, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayev, stated that the Azerbaijan Airlines aircraft involved in the crash suffered failures in its control systems, including the elevator and ailerons.

Baku-Grozny plane crash near Aktau: what happened?

On December 25, a passenger plane of Azerbaijan Airlines, flight AHY8243, crashed near Aktau.

The plane took off at 08:49 AM Astana time from Baku airport, 11 minutes earlier than scheduled. Due to thick fog in Grozny, the plane was first rerouted to Makhachkala, and then to Aktau. Flying over the Caspian Sea, the crew gave the signal "emergency" (squawk 7700). The pilots requested an emergency landing, the airport was preparing to accept the aircraft, but at 11:30 AM the plane crashed 3 kilometers from the airport.
