Astana has been named the best 2010 CIS and EurAsEC city among the 81 contesting cities, Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspaper reports. The capital of Kazakhstan has been awarded the title for its efforts to develop a strategic plan of its sustainable development to 2030, put conditions in place to promote mass sports, and set infrastructure to raise living standards for people with limited abilities. Apart from Astana, 4 other cities of Kazakhstan participated – Aktau, Petropavlovsk, Uralsk and Shymkent. The contest was held by the International Assembly of CIS Countries' Capitals and Big Cities (MAG) in partnership with the Russia’s Ministry of Regions Development, CIS Executive Committee, EurAsEC Integration Committee.
