Tengrinews.kz - During an extended government meeting, Astana akim (governor) Zhenis Kassymbek spoke about the progress of construction of the light rail transit (LRT) system.
According to Kassymbek, LRT construction work will be fully completed in the summer of 2025.
"More than 1600 buses go on city routes every day. In two years, the capital's public transport fleet has been updated by 45%. Thanks to your support, the LRT project is entering the home stretch. Construction work will be fully completed in the summer. The first trains will arrive in September, after which active testing will begin. The city continues active work to form a modern, comfortable, ecological appearance," he said.
As the capital's akim stated, a comprehensive program for the development of the transport system was approved in December 2024.
"In accordance with your instructions, the government approved a new general plan for the city of Astana. In general, today all life support facilities of the capital are operating stably. Against the backdrop of growing automobile traffic in the capital, emphasis has been placed on developing public transport, increasing road capacity, building new bridges, and improving the operation of parking spaces," the akim said.
Earlier, Zhenis Kassymbek was asked how much light rail transit (LRT) travel will cost. The mayor assured that the cost of travel on public transport "will be reasonable."
