Tengrinews.kz - Transport police have brought more than 500 illegal taxi drivers to administrative responsibility in Kazakhstan, according to the press service of the Police Department on transport.
Since the beginning of 2024, 2,841 citizens have been held accountable in Kazakhstan for harassment in public places, including 529 illegal taxi drivers. On September 11, two residents of the capital were detained at Astana airport for approaching passengers with private hire services. They have been held administratively responsible.
"The Police Department on transport regularly conducts preventive measures with a principle of 'zero tolerance' for offenses. We continue to work in this direction because the public and tourists are dissatisfied with the behavior of drivers. There are cases where illegal taxi drivers inflate prices for foreign nationals, which creates a negative impression of our country. Such violations will not go unnoticed, and those responsible will be held accountable," said Department Head Bakitzhan Malybaev.
The Police Department on transport reminded that for solicitation in public places, there is a warning or a fine of 18,460 tenge. For repeated offenses, the fine is 36,920 tenge or an administrative arrest of up to five days.
For foreigners, the penalty for such an offense includes a fine of 18,460 tenge, arrest, or deportation from Kazakhstan.
Earlier, an Indian tourist complained about a taxi driver in Almaty who charged her 77,000 tenge for a ride from the airport to the city. The case became known through social media.
