Tengrinews.kz - A narrow-format meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council was held under the chairmanship of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, reports, citing Akorda.
In his welcoming speech, the Head of State noted the symbolic nature of the day: it was on May 29, 2014, that the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union was signed in Kazakhstan’s capital.
“This event became an important milestone in Eurasian integration. Over the course of its existence, the Union has become a key platform for cooperation and interaction among the Eurasian ‘five.’ On this occasion, let me congratulate all colleagues on Eurasian Economic Union Day and wish success in the further development of our integration association for the benefit of our countries and peoples. During today’s narrow-format meeting, we will consider important issues of foreign trade and the implementation of initiatives to develop artificial intelligence, which we began discussing in detail yesterday as part of the economic forum. I am confident that the meeting will be traditionally constructive and will allow us to reach decisions acceptable to all member states,” the President of Kazakhstan said.
Along with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the event was attended by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Bakytzhan Sagintayev.
It should be noted that Kazakhstan this year chairs the EAEU bodies: the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
According to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s address of December 31, 2025, the key priorities of the chairmanship have been outlined: developing artificial intelligence for economic integration, strengthening the EAEU’s logistics potential, digitalizing industry and the agro-industrial complex, reducing barriers in mutual trade, and expanding economic cooperation with third countries.
Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at the 5th Eurasian Economic Forum in Astana. In his speech, the Head of State spoke about the development of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and how new technologies are changing the economy and the labor market.
The President also recalled that two weeks ago he signed a decree on measures to introduce artificial intelligence into Kazakhstan’s secondary education system.
