Answering questions of Tengrinews.kz readers Director of Metropolitan (Almaty subway construction company) Murat Ukshebayev, said that the cost of Almaty subway ticket will be equal to that of tickets for other public transport in Almaty. As per Ukshebayev, the subway will be working from 6 a.m. to midnight. “A one-way trip on the first line will take 15-20 minutes, including stops at the stations. At rush hours the trains will be arriving to stations every nine minutes. During other time periods the time interval between the trains will be a bit longer. If necessary, the intervals might be shortened depending on passenger traffic,” he said. He also confirmed that the number of bus routes will be reduced on the streets with subway lines. Large car parkings will be constructed at Rayimbek batyr (crossing of Furmanov and Rayimbek streets) and Alatau (on Abai street between Zharokov and Gagarin streets) final stations. Ukshebayev also said that pets transportation rules for subway will be the same as for any other public transport. “Small animals and birds will be allowed in the subway. Small animals and birds in cages and bags may be transported as welll. Dogs may be transported in muzzles and on leads,” he said. The first line of Almaty subway is scheduled to start operating in December 2011. The subway is capable of servicing up to 300 thousand passengers a day.
