Tengrinews.kz – Residents of Almaty have been asked to remain calm on Thursday, July 24, during a test of the alert system.
According to the city’s Emergency Situations Department, at 10:00 AM on July 24, as part of the national exercise “Zher-2025”, a test of the city’s emergency alert system will be conducted.
“We ask you to remain calm and evacuate to safe locations,” the statement said.
Residents of Almaty were reminded that the city is located in a seismically hazardous zone; therefore, people should plan in advance the route to their designated safe location. A safe location is considered to be an open area situated away from power lines, trees, and buildings.
Previously, it was reported that the “Zher-2025” exercise would take place from July 23 to 24 in seismically hazardous regions of the country, including the cities of Almaty and Shymkent, as well as the Abai, Zhetysu, Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, and Turkistan regions. In these areas, residents will hear sirens, and earthquake drills will be held at facilities with large gatherings of people.
