Road conditions in Almaty
The snowfall has affected traffic: congestion has formed in several districts due to reduced vehicle speed.
Earlier, the Almaty Department for Emergency Situations urged drivers and pedestrians to be especially attentive on the roads during the bad weather and to take precautions in icy conditions.

To avoid injuries in icy weather, follow these simple recommendations:
- Cross streets only at designated crossings;
- Stay alert and do not get distracted while crossing the road;
- Watch your step, especially on stairs and building entrances;
- Choose footwear with non-slip, grooved soles;
- Do not keep your hands in your pockets — it will help you maintain balance;
- Be cautious at bus stops, on sidewalks, steps, and other slippery surfaces, as these are high-risk zones.
Utility services readiness
Earlier, the Almaty akimat reported that the city is prepared for the precipitation. Snowplows are operating on the streets, and manual cleaning crews have been deployed. Roads are treated with de-icing agents at night and in the morning to reduce the risk of ice.
Why the snowfall benefits the environment
Snow has become a natural filter for Almaty’s air. Precipitation and wind help:
- trap dust and fine particles;
- disperse the smog that has lingered over Almaty for several weeks;
- improve visibility and air quality near the surface.
Experts previously noted that the combination of precipitation and wind contributes to an environmental reset in Almaty.
