Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization, Darkhan Akhmediev, has announced that artificial intelligence will soon be used to assist in selecting the most suitable military branch for conscripts.

Speaking at a Central Communications Service briefing dedicated to the digital transformation of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces, Akhmediev was asked when AI would be integrated into the conscription system.

“We already operate an electronic system that helps determine who is subject to conscription and who is exempt — primarily students and people with disabilities. These individuals are placed on a separate list, and we send them SMS notifications letting them know they don’t need to visit the military enlistment office. Now, we want to go further. Based on the initial data we have on a conscript — such as their place of birth, education, marital status, height, weight, etc. — the system will help identify which branch of the military they are best suited for. In other words, the system will allow for more targeted assignments,” Akhmediev said.

The deputy minister added that the AI-based system is expected to be implemented by the end of this year.

“I believe we’ll hold another briefing early next year and share the results then,” he concluded.

Previously, Akorda announced that Kazakhstanis eligible for mandatory military service would now receive draft notices not only on paper, but also electronically.
