Tengrinews.kz - Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Lepekha was asked when mandatory registration of mopeds will begin in Kazakhstan.
On the sideline of the Mazhilis, the deputy minister said that all the necessary documents are planned to be signed by the end of November.
"We will conditionally start registration on December 1. Then there will be a technical inspection. At first, we will just look at compliance, the presence of license plates, and everything else," Igor Lepekha answered.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, there are officially about 70 thousand mopeds in Kazakhstan.
“If they don’t register, what will be the penalty?” the deputy minister was asked.
"I think they will pass. And for those who do not, their mopeds will be impounded," he answered.
Additionally, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed amendments to the law "On the road traffic" and the Administrative Code on October 3, now moped drivers must have a driver's license of subcategory A1. From April 4, 2025, moped drivers will be prohibited from driving without a driver's license and state registration plates. This innovation applies to all mopeds, including those whose maximum design speed does not exceed 50 kilometers per hour.
