Tengrinews.kz – The press service of the President of Kazakhstan has reported, with reference to Akorda, on the agreements reached between Kazakhstan and Russia in various areas.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called Russia Kazakhstan’s most important trade, economic, and investment partner.
Key figures:
- By the end of 2024, trade turnover amounted to around 28 billion dollars. In the first 8 months of this year, it exceeded 17 billion dollars.
- The goal is to bring bilateral trade to 30 billion dollars.
- The total accumulated volume of direct investment from Russia in Kazakhstan’s economy has exceeded 27 billion dollars.
- In 2024, Russia became the largest investor in Kazakhstan, increasing capital investments to a record 4 billion dollars.
- Kazakh investments in Russia are also growing — over the past 15 years they have totalled around 9 billion dollars.
- Over 20,000 companies with Russian participation operate in Kazakhstan — almost half of all enterprises with foreign capital.
- 175 major joint projects are being implemented.
- Both sides agreed to maintain a high level of business contacts and create all necessary conditions for doing business.
- For this purpose, a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Program until 2030 has been adopted.
Transit and transport sector
- The parties agreed to consistently expand the capacity of transport corridors: North–South, TITR, the Ayagoz–Bakhty railway line, Dostyk–Mointy, and several other projects.
- They emphasized the importance of improving cross-border logistics infrastructure and enhancing the operation of border checkpoints.
- They intend to continue cooperation to promote the promising initiative “Trans-Altai Dialogue.”
- This format is designed to become an effective platform for expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan, Russia, China, and Mongolia in the spirit of good neighborliness and mutual benefit.
Energy
- Significant progress has been achieved in recent years in this sphere.
- Special attention was given to productive work with Rosatom, including the project for constructing the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.
- The parties agreed to strengthen partnership in the extraction, transportation, and supply of oil, petroleum products, coal, and electricity.
- Prospects for gas cooperation were discussed in detail — in particular, gas supply to Kazakhstan’s regions bordering Russia and transit to third countries.
New innovative growth areas
- Several documents signed during the visit will allow the two countries to advance significantly in space exploration, nuclear energy, development of special economic zones, and creative industries.
- Broad opportunities are opening in the IT sector, where Kazakhstan has accumulated strong experience.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
- The number of joint events — tours, exhibitions, concerts, and sports competitions — is steadily growing.
- Recently, Kazakhstan Culture Days in Russia were successfully held in Moscow.
- Earlier, Yakutsk and Kazan hosted Kazakh cultural delegations as part of Culture Days.
- In May this year, the “Kazakhstan–Russia Eternal Friendship Alley” was opened in Astana, and yesterday in Moscow — the “Kazakhstan–Russia Friendship Square.”
- One of the streets in Moscow has been named after Chokan Valikhanov.
- A Kazakh Information and Cultural Center is planned to be opened in Moscow.
Education and sports
- In Kazakhstan, nine branches of leading Russian universities operate successfully.
This year, a branch of MGIMO opened in Astana, and a branch of Al-Farabi KazNU opened in Omsk. - Plans are being worked out to open a branch of a Russian medical university in Kazakhstan.
- Joint school construction projects are being implemented, taking into account the educational standards of both countries.
- In Almaty, with sponsorship support, a new building will be constructed for the local branch of the well-known Russian school “Sirius.”
- Kazakhstan pays great attention to promoting Russian culture and language. The International Organization for the Russian Language, established on Kazakhstan’s initiative, is expected to contribute significantly to this important cause.
