Tengrinews.kz - The National Bank of Kazakhstan announces the extension of the period of parallel circulation of 5000 tenge banknotes of the 2011 design and banknotes of the modified design of the 2023 design until September 24, 2025, according to the press service of The National Bank.

After the end of the parallel circulation period, that is, from September 25, 2025, all banks and Kazpost will exchange old-style banknotes (2011) for new-style banknotes (2023) for three years, and branches of the National Bank - indefinitely.

"New-style banknotes and old-style banknotes during their parallel circulation are legal tender and must be accepted at their face value throughout Kazakhstan for all types of payments and transfers, and crediting to bank accounts. They can be exchanged and changed without restrictions in all branches of the National Bank, Kazpost, second-tier banks in the country, and branches of non-resident banks in Kazakhstan," the National Bank noted.

The National Bank also reminded that refusing to accept banknotes and coins that are legal tender is an administrative offense.
