Tengrinews.kz - Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev has commented on reports regarding Kazakh officials owning property in Dubai.

Journalists asked him about his knowledge of media investigations concerning Kazakh politicians and their relatives investing millions of dollars in real estate in the UAE, Ashimbayev stated that while he had not personally read the reports, he had seen related comments from other sources.

"I haven’t read the reports myself, but I have seen comments from other sources. As I understand, you raised this question with the chairman of the Committee for Asset Recovery of the General Prosecutor’s Office. They will be able to provide a comprehensive answer to this. According to the chairman, these matters are being handled in due course, and if assets were illegally transferred, they will be added to the relevant list," Ashimbayev responded.

The Senate Speaker emphasized that if the illegal transfer of assets is proven, authorities will investigate the means by which the funds were obtained.

"In accordance with the law, appropriate decisioproprns will be made. Everything will proceed within legal frameworks. Additionally, as far as I know, around 1,500 Kazakh citizens own various properties in Dubai. However, it would be inappropriate to condemn all of them. Some may be entrepreneurs who have earned their wealth legally and purchased property. These cases will be thoroughly examined by the relevant committee within the legal framework. It would be best to direct these questions to the General Prosecutor's Office," Ashimbayev concluded.

Kazakhstan intends to join the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention.
